FUTURE OF HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathic education in India is very unique. The graduate course comprises of a five and a half year duration and Post Graduation continues over 3 years. The vigorous curriculum is an integrated curriculum envisaged by the Central Council of Homoeopathy. In India approximately 190 colleges impart UG & PG training and we have 223,883 homeopathic practitioners. Quality education is imparted in India – we have model institutes: the National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata, the Homoepathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory, Govt of India, and the Central Council of Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi. We have functional hospitals providing good clinical material, standardised treatment protocols and research. Teaching is problem-based, analytical thinking was introduced into case solving, an experienced faculty with a conducive atmosphere for an all round future-oriented development of students with a community centred approach. Pointers for the future: Institutions should be harbours of change and there should be a progression of scientific thoughts, well coordinated and improved Faculty Development Programmes, Improvement of quality in health care and services at homeopathic teaching hospitals. Need for accreditation – beyond quality assurance and quality control, so that the organisation can gain global recognition to be proactive in public health issues and make homeopathy, as a front line treatment modality in communicable as well as non communicable diseases.
